Her name is Alexandra Rupp, and she represents the Oklahoma City Metro Literacy Coalition, our sponsored non-profit for IgniteOKC 3. 100% of the proceeds of VIP tickets will be donated to this organization. And, a fantastic anonymous donor has offered to match what we raise and make an equal donation for OKC Beautiful, doubling the do-gooding! Everything I Need to Know about Life I Learned from Isaac Newton

Isaac Newton's Laws of Motion, his Law of Cooling, and his experiments over light and color can be connected to life, learning, and change in education. Many people learn about most of Isaac Newton's ideas in middle school or at the very least during high school. However, most people never apply his ideas beyond the science classroom.  Newton is all about change. Whether change in temperature, velocity, or educational ideas, once you get change going it can be difficult to stop. Sir Isaac has a lot to teach us and its not just about science!

Breaking and entering – I gets mines & you can too.

Important life lessons everyone should master: 1. Rob Bell said it best "...being kind is a better way to live." 2. Though the proverb "cleanliness is next to Godliness" does not actually appear in the Bible, Jesus still wants you to suds after using the potty. 3. There's more than one way to pick a lock. I'm going to assume that in your 30-give-or-take-a-few-ish years you've mastered lessons 1 and 2.  In five mintues I will show you how using a Coke can to pick a lock can change your life without sending you to the pokey.

Finding Work That Doesn't Suck

Work is not a four-letter word. Or at least it shouldn't be. In fact, work should NOT suck. It should be a way for you to express your passions, play to your talents and strengths, foster learning and growth, and allow you to do what you do best. If you don't love or even like your work now, I'll offer suggestions about how I found (err, created) the work I ultimately love and you can too.

Literacy in the OKC Metro

Did you know that 14% of Oklahoma’s adult population can’t read with enough proficiency to even fill out a job application? Further, studies have found a positive connection between literacy and a multitude of socio-economic issues, including poor health, crime, and poverty. Although it sounds unbelievable, it’s projected that our country loses $60 billion a year in lost productivity as a result of American illiteracy. The Oklahoma City Metro Literacy Coalition is committed to 100% literacy through 100% community engagement; our goal is to bring literacy to the entire Oklahoma City community, to ensure that we have a competitive workforce and a confident citizenry.

Being Human in a Web World

Sure, Kevin Flynn made it look (relatively) easy, but we know it can be hard to be a human in a web world. If you let it, the web can take all of the humanity out of your public voice. It's easy to lose your personal touch and just become another cold bot on the internet. Clients (and potential clients) don't want to work with a black box; they want to work with you. I want to offer a few suggestions on how you can let prospective clients and your current community put a human face to your business.

The 3 Questions Everyone Ask Themselves When They're Dying and How to Live So that the Answer to Them Will Be Yes

A few years ago, I came to know, firsthand, the three questions everyone asks themselves when they are dying:  1) Did I live enough?  2) Did I love enough?  3) Did I live a life that mattered?  At that time, while laying in my hospital bed, my answer was "no" to all three.  I made a decision that if I lived through my ordeal, I was going to find out how to live so that the next time I faced death all of my answers would be, "hell yes!"  Several years later, I've found out exactly how to live life so that next time the answers to those questions will be a resounding yes.  In this talk, I share with you exactly what I learned.

How to get Whole Food in OKC without a "Whole Foods"

Using my twisted sense of humor and knowledge of food and people in oklahoma city, I want to show you how to get the most out of your shopping dollars, while getting the best and freshest products available

Bad dads piss me off. My journey to fatherhood

What does it really mean to be a dad and why should you care?  My story begins as a child growing up without a father due to his death at an early age. A fatherless boy grows up with many challenges and mine included being overweight and very shy. Later in life, there was a fear of becoming a dad myself and this fear went away the moment I held my own son. Little did I know that just nine months later I would be fighting for my life after feeling a lump under my arm and experiencing life with stage IV cancer.  Now 13 years later I have learned much about what it takes to be a good father and how to break the cycle of bad parenting. Hear my story and perhaps you too can help another man become this best dad he can.

Turn your Brown Thumb, Green

Stop watching your mulch fade and float away.  Let me explain how to maximixe your dollars for the most curb appeal and not to make the mistakes that the national companies want you to make.

You Don't Know How Much You Don't Know

You suffer from the Dunning-Kruger Effect.  Didn't know that?  Don't worry (too much), everyone suffers from it.  You see it when others do, but never when you do.  In this entertaining talk, find out just how big your mental blind spots are and why you'll never be able to see them.  You might begin to question your most deeply held beliefs and might find out the most intelligent answer you can give to any question is "I don't know".

So You Want To Be A Writer? That's A Terrible Idea!

Since I was a preschooler learning how to make my very own words I've longed to see my name in print. As a paid writer and an aspiring author - two words whose meanings are so close, and yet so very different - I can outline the creative, financial and personal struggles artistic dreamers will face on their road to real recognition - being published.  Why write? It turns out that "being an author" is not a good enough reason to do it. Being a billionaire like J.K. Rowling or owning a private jet like John Grisham are not reason enough to want to work with words, because it won't happen. Writing to be published is a terrible idea; the only worse idea, in fact, is writing to make money. Though at this point I know more about *how* to make money from my words, I'm less convinced that's the point.

WTF is a hacker space and why do we need one!?!?!

A brief desrciption as to what a hackspace is. What ohmspace is. What our goals are and how people can help if they want.

It's a Dog's Life in OKC: 7 facts you didn't know that prove caring for animals elevates our community

What is a Humane Society? What is "the pound?" Where do all these dogs and cats come from? What happens to the ones that aren't adopted? Are there any purebreds at the shelter? Does Cesar Milan know what he's talking about? Misinformation runs rampant when it comes to animal welfare and the people who do it in our community. Learn the truth about what it's like to be an animal in Oklahoma City, and why everyone--even those from pet-free households--should care.

Stop Saving the World

That's right. Stop trying to be a hero. Just like good intentions... the world is littered with heroes -- famous people wealthy people, normal people like you and me -- who have tried to end global poverty and hunger.   More than $2.5 trillion has been spent by the West on foreign aid over the the last five decades.  And yet, more than 1 billion people are still living without access to clean water. Half the world is living on less than $2 a day and without access to adequate sanitation. About 2 billion are living without electricity.  Are you kidding me? I got tired of being asked to save the world.  And I decided it was time to not even bother trying.  It's time you did the same.  Let's stop saving the world today.  We have much better things to do with our time and money.

One Love Worldwide

My goal of the talk would be to provide awareness of current global issues that One Love Worldwide is working to address.  One Love Worldwide is a nonprofit organization established to provide aid and resources to underprivileged persons in an effort to rehabilitate their environment and create self sustainability.  Implementation of the organization's first project took place over the summer of 2010.  A water well was drilled and a sustainable water system was built.  This is just phase one of our project.  I will highlight how our efforts are unique in that my personal friendship with the village was established long before the idea of an organization even existed. Actually, the organization was established as a direct result of the harsh realities I witnessed during my very brief visit to the village.
